Hebrews 13
We are to live righteously before our fellow man and to offer God the sacrifice of praise.
INSIGHT
Praise is good for the soul and pleasing to God. The writer of Hebrews says," let us continually offer the sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of our lips, giving thanks to His name" (v. 15). Again, in Psalm 33:1, we read: "Praise from the upright is beautiful." If you want to do something that pleases the Lord, praise Him. In addition, however, our actions must follow: "But do not forget to do good and to share, for with such sacrifices God is well pleased" (v. 16). The praise of our lips must be followed with the godly pattern of our lives. Note that both praise and doing good are sacrifices with which God is well pleased.
PRAYER
Knowing that the Lord delights to hear it, offer Him your praise for who He is and what He has done for you:
The Lord reigns, He is clothed with majesty;
The Lord is clothed,
He has girded Himself with strength
Surely the world is established, so that it cannot be moved.
Your throne is established from of old;
You are from everlasting (Psalm 93:1-2).
Pause for praise and thanksgiving.
Pray this confession to the Lord as you seek to keep your life free from sin:
"Now, therefore," says the Lord,
"Turn to me with all your heart,
With fasting, with weeping, and with mourning."
So rend your heart, and not your garments;
Return to the Lord your God,
For He is gracious and merciful,
Slow to anger, and of great kindness;
And He relents from doing harm (Joel 2:12-13).
Confess any sins that the Holy Spirit brings to your mind, and pray this affirmation to the Lord:
God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
(Romans 5:8)
As you make your requests known to the Lord, include:
that others will see Christ in you,
the fulfillment of the Great Commission,
your activities for the day.
Close your time of worship with this prayer to the Lord:
To the King eternal, immortal, invisible, to God who alone is wise, be honor and glory forever and ever. Amen
(1 Timothy 1:17)
