Fear has its place

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom; all those who practice it have a good understanding….
--Psalm 111:10
Enoch, a champion of our faith from the Old Testament, was a God-fearing man. The fear that motivated him was hidden in the name that God gave for his firstborn son, Methuselah, which means "when he is dead it will be sent."
That name would get your attention, wouldn't it?! It certainly got Enoch's. Because Enoch understood that the times in which he lived were evil. And when God gave him the name Methuselah for his son, he knew that judgment was approaching.
But you see, even though God's judgment was imminent, the mercy of God abounded!
As long as Methuselah lived, the judgment of God tarried. And the Scripture tells us that Methuselah lived 969 years! More than anything, God desired for people to repent of their wickedness. So he waited... and he waited. But as promised, when Methuselah died the flood of judgment came.
So what should this say to us who also live in evil times? Many are asking, "Where is the promise of his coming? Where is his judgment?"
God is patiently waiting for people to repent… but he will not wait forever.
Now is the time to know the fear of the Lord. Esteem him as the almighty God worthy of your time and attention, your obedience, and worship. This is what it means to fear the Lord. This is the beginning of wisdom!
NOW IS THE TIME TO KNOW THE FEAR OF THE LORD.
