Humble Beginning

today's reading.
Luke 2:1-21    In those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus that all the world should be registered...
Luke 2:1

think about it.
What does this event tell you about God's timing? His sovereignty? What is the "good news of great joy" really about (2:11)? How did this affect the shepherds (2:15-20)? How has this news affected your life? What are you doing today to share this good news?

the blog.
Luke gives us a snapshot of Jesus' birth and what was taking place in the days leading up to this important event in Luke 2:1-21. Joseph and a very pregnant Mary travel to Bethlehem because of a census being imposed by Caesar Augustus. "And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger, because there was no place for them in the inn" (vs. 6-7). Definitely not what you'd expect for the Son of God.

So what does how Jesus came to earth and the circumstances surrounding his birth reveal to us about God--His character, His love, His desire for relationship with us? Tami W.
