Rest for the Weary

Matt. 11:28: "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest" (NIV).

What parent isn't weary at the end of the day?! Sometimes rest seems like something we will only get to enjoy in the distant future. When I'm tired and discouraged, I sometimes look at a magnet that was given to me as a gift. It reads: "Peace. It does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. It means to be in the midst of those things and still be calm in your heart." Is that possible?

In the passage, Jesus is issuing an invitation to all who are weary and burdened to come to Him. He's not proposing freedom from noise, trouble or hard work. He's offering something more eternal and fulfilling. Jesus wants us to find rest in our souls from the burden of sin and its consequences!

Take time to place your burdens in the hands of Jesus Christ. He has already paid the price, and His peace is ours for the asking. Enjoy the peace that passes understanding, even in the midst of chaos.
