Come and Drink - One Year Devotions for Women

On the last day, the climax of the festival, Jesus stood and shouted to the crowds, “If you are thirsty, come to me! If you believe in me, come and drink! For the Scriptures declare that rivers of living water will flow out from within.” - John 7:37-38

What a real experience of deep soul happiness we find when we receive from Christ the free gift of the Holy Spirit. We discover, through the Holy Spirit, an inexhaustible fountain of life in Christ. We can come with our bucket of faith and put it into the fountain with faith and prayer, drawing out spiritual blessings. Then, like the woman Jesus met at Jacob’s well, we can run back to our thirsty, needy world to share the Good News with our friends (John 4:28).

As the prophet Isaiah promised, “With joy [we] will drink deeply from the fountain of salvation!” (Isaiah 12:3). Joy is very important. Without joy, our fountain of life becomes bitter. Not too many people will readily drink from a poisoned fountain. And not too many folks will be eager to accept a drink of anything from a person with a sour face!

But perhaps you’re not feeling bitter; instead, you feel that your fountain of life is running dry. Perhaps you feel like someone has dumped “dirt” (such as worry, fear, or doubt) in your well and dried you up, blocking the flow of God’s Spirit. You need to ask God to reopen the well, so you can once again draw up the blessings of the Holy Spirit and give refreshment to those around you.

Jesus spoke of a beautiful experience that can be ours. All who are thirsty should listen, believe, and drink. Put in your bucket, and when you draw it out, share the refreshment of God’s Holy Spirit with others.
