Today's Scripture

"For there is a proper time and procedure for every delight, though a man’s trouble is heavy upon him." - Ecclesiastes 8:6 NAS

Thoughts for Today

There is more to life than fun. It would be nice if this life were all pleasurable, but it is not. We cannot avoid or escape times of hardship.

The key? Follow God through the good times and the bad. Trust him through the good and the difficult. Enjoy seasons of pleasure and fun, but don't look to them as life's answer.

Consider this …

Here are two attitudes about pleasure. The first seems more natural, but makes life hard. The second seems hard, but makes life good. Where do you see yourself?

1. Give me more, more, more. "Eat, drink, and be merry, for tomorrow we may die." In pursing mostly fun activities, I try to avoid trudging through the harder parts of life.

2. I am willing to accept the bad with the good. I appreciate balance and moderation. I enjoy seasons of pleasure, not pleasure as all there is to this life.

Prayer

Father, help me have a balanced attitude toward pleasure, and toward life. Help me to walk with you through the good times and the bad. Help me to always recognize my need for you and to trust you. In Jesus' name …

These thoughts were drawn from …Where is the Image of God in You? by Brad Rymer. The purpose of this study is for us to see how some of the different character traits we have can be used in constructive rather than destructive ways in our lives and relationships so that we are operating more and more in the image of God according to the way He created us. Also, this study can help us better understand others as we build godly relationships. Note: This curriculum was written especially for small groups, and we encourage people to use it that way. However, it can also be used effectively as a personal study for individuals or couples.
