Standing in the Shadows
By: Rick Boxx

Recently, a friend of mine shared about his grandfather’s amazing life. This grandfather left a great legacy, but I sensed that it also left a big “shadow” over my friend.

Many people who have had successful grandfathers, fathers or brothers fear they will never measure up. This long shadow, and the self-doubt it can bring, can hinder the next generation in living out their own personal calling.

Ephesians 2:10 says, “For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.”

Your family’s legacy is important, but it’s more important that you live out your calling, without comparing yourself to those before you. God has a plan for you that doesn’t require you to measure up to those before you.
