Drive Out the Scoffer
By: Rick Boxx
March 24, 2014

Adam worked for a man named Joe that treated his staff poorly. Eventually, the company did a reorganization that resulted in Adam becoming Joe’s boss.

For a time, Adam protected Joe even when Joe mistreated others. But lately Joe has been undermining Adam, by intentionally providing late and faulty reports to make Adam look bad to others. Plus, Joe began stirring up dissension against Adam.

Adam asked me if I thought he should terminate Joe. The word “scoffer” immediately came to mind.

Proverbs 22:10 says, “Drive out the scoffer, and contention will go out, Even strife and dishonor will cease.”

We decided that Adam should prepare Adam’s current boss for what seems inevitable, give Joe one last chance, and then if Joe continues his poor behavior, drive out the “scoffer.”
