Desperate for God
June 21, 2011
By: Rick Boxx

When I first met Jeff, he was finishing a 40 day fast. For 40 days he only drank mineral water. When I asked why, he told me he was in the midst of making a career change and was desperate for God’s direction. He later transitioned from a nonprofit to politics.

Fasting is a lost discipline. Jim Nichols, a recent acquaintance, did a study on Christian business leaders. He found that fasting was virtually nonexistent.

Desperate for God’s direction, Daniel wrote in Daniel 9:3, “So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes.”

Consult a doctor for lengthy fasts, but if you’re desperate for God don’t overlook the value of fasting from food or activities.
