Fleecing the Poor
By: Rick Boxx

While in college, I landed a job selling vacuum cleaners to households. Since they were expensive, I assumed we would be targeting our sales to wealthier families.

My sales manager quickly debunked that idea. He explained that he wanted us to go into poor neighborhoods where we could easily coerce them to buy a product they really couldn’t afford, by simply offering them financing! The financing made us even more money per sale!

Psalm 10:2 teaches, “In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak, who are caught in the schemes he devises.”

Although my moral compass was lacking then, I had enough conscience to know I couldn’t fleece the poor in this way. I resigned soon thereafter.

Do any of your products or services target the weak for the wrong reasons?
