Earlier this year, Richard Schulze, founder and board member of Best Buy, learned of allegations purporting that Brian Dunn, the CEO of Best Buy, was having an inappropriate relationship with an employee. Mr. Schulze ignored board protocol to notify the audit committee and let them investigate.
Instead, he approached Mr. Dunn about the situation, without involving the audit committee. When the audit committee learned of the infraction, they investigated the situation more completely. Mr. Dunn resigned due to his inappropriate relationship and Mr. Schulze was pressured to step down as Chairman.
James 4:17 teaches, “If anyone, then, knows the good they ought to do and doesn’t do it, it is sin for them.”
Procedures are established for a reason. We need to submit to them, rather than assuming we know best.
