The Challenge of Stewardship
By Rick Boxx
January 14, 2011

In "The Return of the King," the third episode of the Lord of the Rings, there's a scene that demonstrates the struggle many have between being a steward versus being an owner. Denethor, the steward of Gondor, is urged to help an ally of Gondor.

Denethor proclaims he will not jeopardize "His Kingdom" for the ally. Although he's only been commissioned to "manage" Gondor until the return of the king, he suddenly reveals he's not willing to relinquish control.

Psalm 24:1 reminds us that "The earth is the Lord's, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it."

God's Word is clear, we are only stewards not owners of the possessions placed in our care. Are you a steward or trying hard to be the owner?
