Freedom from Corruption
By Rick Boxx

The nation of Georgia, formerly part of Russia, invested in full page Wall Street Journal ads proclaiming their successes in fighting corruption. 78% of Georgians think that corruption has decreased over the last 3 years, according to the 2010 Global Corruption Barometer by Transparency International.

According to the State Department, Georgia began an assault against corruption and bribes in 2004, when the newly elected President fired most of the police force and replaced them with better paid and better trained officers. The police had been known for encouraging bribes and a culture of corruption.

Ecclesiastes 7:7 teaches, "Extortion turns a wise man into a fool, and a bribe corrupts the heart."

Georgia seems to understand that corruption begats corruption. Hooray for Georgia! May God lead them towards freedom from corruption.
