Forfeiting Our Soul
By: Rick Boxx

Recently a friend noticed a change in a small chain of coffee shops he used to frequent. They added yogurt and shrunk the available space for people to meet, so he called a friend in that business to learn why.

He learned that the franchisor decided they could make more profit on yogurt and by increasing customer turnover. They reduced the space for people to meet, thereby pressuring customers to leave sooner. My friend predicted that this company’s fixation with increasing profits would prove disastrous.

Jesus taught in Matthew 16:26, “What good will it be for a man if he gains the whole world, yet forfeits his soul?”

When we chase profits rather than our mission, we are forfeiting the soul of our organization. Don’t get caught by that temptation.

Ken Eldred’s Integrated Life

Integration is the key to changing that mindset and thus “redeeming” the vast majority of our time, the hours devoted to work. When our work is a holy calling and a ministry, it’s loaded with spiritual significance. All that time we spend at work has spiritual value. So while balance alone might redeem some hours, integration can redeem far more! Purchase here.
