Expecting The Supernatural - October 8

Expecting The Supernatural

The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father (John 14:12).

Dear friends:

The Christianity I knew as a young believer was hardly characterized by the supernatural.

Even though it was good, solid, orthodox, fundamental, biblical teaching, for which I am grateful, and which helped me have a strong foundation, there was little emphasis on the supernatural.

I gradually learned that the Christian life is supposed to be a supernatural life.  Just check out the four gospels, the book of Acts, and the other New Testament books, and see how they lived and what they experienced.  God has not changed, and He says He does not change (Malachi 3:6).

When I first heard God's many promises, such as in John 14:12, I was really challenged: "The truth is, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father" (NLT).

I discovered other promises, such as Mark 11:24: "Listen to me! You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it" (NLT).

"What does all this mean?" I thought.  "How can I personally experience that quality of life that is obviously superior to anything that I was now experiencing or that most others around me were experiencing?"

As I prayed for the reality of the fulfillment of God's promises in my life, He began to show me that His own supernatural resources are available to every believer.  But it is important that we understand His mighty attributes, His holiness, His sovereignty, His love, His wisdom, His power, His grace, and His compassion, and that He, our great creator God and loving, holy, heavenly Father, Son and Holy Spirit, actually lives within our bodies.  Our bodies are temples of God.

The principles of Jeremiah 29:12-13 are also important: "You will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you.  You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart" (NKJV).

As I sought Him with all my heart, I began to realize and experience again and again the fulfillment of God's glorious promises, and have seen the wonderful, supernatural power of God manifested on innumerable occasions in our efforts to help fulfill the Great Commission.

That is not surprising.  When He gave the Great Commission, our Lord said, "I have been given all power," and then He added, "I am with you" (Matthew 28:18,20).  When we do His will, we are in powerful company!

Yours for fulfilling the Great Commission each year until our Lord returns,
