How God Speaks

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work. - (2 Timothy 3:16–17)

First and foremost, God speaks to us through His Word. We are told in Psalm 119:105, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Needless to say, God never will lead us in a direction that is contrary to His Word. We are reminded in 2 Timothy 3:16, “All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness.” So open the Word of God. Spend time in the Word of God. Trust in the Word of God, and you will have the will of God revealed to you.

I am not someone who holds my Bible up to the wind and says, “Now Lord, I don’t know Your will about this, but if it is Your will, whatever it is, just let the wind blow the pages to the verse.” You see, that is taking Scripture out of context. We need to read through books of the Bible. We need to get the whole counsel of God.

I have found there are times when I just read the Bible, and I tend to know the mind and the heart of God when a decision is put before me. It is kind of a no-brainer, because I just read about it that day. So I will apply those verses as I make that decision. At other times, I will find that certain verses seem to jump off the page and bring solace or comfort or clarity or direction to a matter.

That is why we need to spend time reading the Word of God and studying it very carefully. Then God will show us what it is that He wants us to do.
