Hands-on Faith for Families – Week of December 19, 2016

Theme: God’s Gifts to Us

Jesus Gives Us Rest

Scripture: Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. (Matthew 11:28).

Play: Have two people lie down, then ask your kids which one looks more restful. After they choose, explain that maybe one was relaxing and the other was thinking through all the things she had to do — which isn’t really resting.

Talk: Rest is not just about getting enough sleep or relaxation for our bodies. We also need rest for our minds and our souls. When we are worried or feel bad about doing something wrong, we can feel worn out. Jesus said, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest” (Matthew 11:28). By asking Him to take care of our worries and forgive our sins, we can have peace knowing that He loves us and will help us. What are some things you could talk to Jesus about so you can rest in Him?

Pray: Pray for the worries or sins that you just mentioned.
