Christians Have Bad Days Too! - Encouragement Café - September 8, 2014

His incomparably great power for us who believe (Eph. 1:19). It seems as if people have this misconception that Christians are supposed to be happy all the time no matter what the circumstance may be.

Today’s Special is: Turning to the Lord in Both Good Times and Bad

Carefully prepared just for you by your friend, Savannah Parvu

Main Ingredient:

I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which He has called you, the riches of His glorious inheritance in His holy people, and his incomparably great power for us who believe. That power is the same as the mighty strength.

Ephesians 1:18-19 NIV

Entrée:

Everybody has their good days and their bad days whether you’re a professing believer of Christ or not. It seems as if people have this misconception that Christians are supposed to be happy all the time no matter what the circumstance may be.

In Galatians 5:22-23 we learn that Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit that the Lord gives us when we give our life to Him. Over time I have come to find that as Christians we always have the joy of the Lord in our hearts, but that doesn’t necessarily mean that we are always going to feel happy. Our moods can be altered by many different things and circumstances, but sometimes we have a bad day or feel down for no real reason at all.

It’s in these down times and times we feel unhappy that we can hold onto the hope that the Lord has given us. The hope that He will never leave nor forsake us, the hope that He will see us through until the very end of the age, the hope that He loves us with an everlasting love and that we are holy and blameless in His sight.

I love the Scripture above from Ephesians and I believe it’s a prayer that we should have for ourselves. When we are down, we can pray and ask God to enlighten the eyes of our hearts so that we can see. It’s good for us to stop and recharge with the Word of God to help us keep our focus on Him, in both good times and bad.

Take Out:

Ask God to give you a Scripture or several Scriptures that will encourage you in times of difficulty or when you’re having a bad day or just feeling unhappy. Write these Scriptures down and meditate on them so that when unhappy feelings come you will be able to hold onto the truth and turn to the Lord.

Dessert:

Dear Lord, thank You so much for the joy that You have placed in the lives of Your children. Though we may not always feel happy we know we still have Your joy in our hearts. Thank You for the hope that we have in You and for all of the promises that You have given us. Scripture tells us that Your Word is never returned void and for that we are grateful. Help us to hide Your Truth in our hearts and turn to You in both good times and bad. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
