The Waters Above

Psalm 148

It was in the early period of flight training before I soloed. Carol, my instructor, took the stick and headed for a cloud up ahead. Without my instrument rating I stayed away from these guys, but Carol had all the credentials and flew right into the puffy billows. "Dave, open the window and put out your hand." (We were in a Citabria, a small aerobatic airplane, and you can actually do this). I thrust my hand right into the cloud, and when I brought it back inside, it was sopping wet. The writers of Genesis and Psalms got it right when they talked about the waters above the earth separated from the waters on the earth.

“So God made the expanse and separated the water under expanse from the water above the expanse.” - Genesis 1:7

“Praise Him, highest heavens, and waters above the skies.”

Let them praise the name of the LORD, for He commanded and they were created.” - Psalm 148:4-5

LORD, coming home from Mansfield yesterday afternoon, I saw You collecting some of those big, fluffy white clouds. We need You to gather those waters above and pack them together so tight that they will pour down rain. This dry Texas ground needs a good drink.
