The Only Living Prince

Psalm 146

Here in Brazil petitions are circulating to try and curb the corruption that has infected every area of government. Dave Cox Jr., my nephew, is watching the news as I write this. (They have talking heads here, just like we have in the U.S.) The lead story was a report about a major leader in the government who’s being forced to step down. This government came to power promising to purify the fraud in Brasilia. Now it is gasping for air, as it has become one of the most fraudulent ever. One thing is clear. The psalmist had it right hundreds of years ago.

“Don’t trust in princes, in humans, who can’t save. When his breath departs, he returns to the dust. On that very day his plans come to nothing. Blessed are those whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD their God.“ - Psalm 146:3-5

LORD, sometimes it’s hard to tell one politician from another, but one thing they all hold in common. They will all die, and they won’t be able to sustain all the promises they make. Raise up honest, competent leaders in both Brazil and the U.S., but help me realize that there is one prince who stands infinitely above all the others, the One who didn’t stay in the ground. My ultimate vote is with Jesus, the Savior who lives forever and will execute His plan.
