Where to find shelter when all seems hopeless

May 3

The name of the LORDis a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. - Proverbs 18:10

As part of the famed Lewis and Clark expedition, John Colter spent three years of hazardous duty escorting the explorers through some of the roughest terrain in the western frontier of North America. After that, he made a living trapping beaver in the Missouri River, deep in Blackfoot Indian territory.

One day while inspecting his traps, Colter and his companion were flanked by Blackfoot warriors. His friend was killed and Colter was captured, stripped of his clothing, and was led out onto the prairie where he was released as several hundred Blackfoot set off in pursuit.

For 11 days, traveling day and night, Colter climbed mountains, scurried across fields, and trampled through woods. He covered an unbelievable 300-mile trek before he finally made his way to safety!

For Colter, things looked hopeless. In fact, most people would have probably given up at such unimaginable odds. But he kept pushing forward and his work was rewarded.

Whatever unimaginable circumstances you may face today, never forget that the Lord is your refuge. And you don’t have to hike 300 miles to get to Him. Just call on His name and He’ll be there to give you shelter from the storm!
