But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up.
NKJV

That was it. That was the last straw. King Nebuchadnezzar was pushed over the edge by these Hebrew men who wouldn't bow down to the image He had set up. "Into the fire!" the King ordered.

So it is for us also when we refuse to compromise our faith in Jesus Christ and His word. Perhaps your family, coworkers, teammates, or classmates are wondering why you won't 'bow down' and just do and say what everyone else in this world is doing. Why not fudge a little on your tithes and taxes? Why not sleep with that person outside of marriage? Why not throw down a few beers and get tipsy with the boys? When we choose not to bow down to sins of culture and our flesh and instead choose to be conformed into His image sometimes we find ourselves in the fire of persecution.

2 Timothy 3:12
Yes, and all who desire to live godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution.
NKJV

But the good news is that in the fires of persecution people get to see that Jesus is with us. He is giving us peace that passes understanding and keeping us from the intensity of the flames that threatens to destroy it.

Daniel 3:25
"Look!" he answered, "I see four men loose, walking in the midst of the fire; and they are not hurt, and the form of the fourth is like the Son of God."
NKJV

Jesus is calling us to follow Him. Even at the price of persecution, we are called to receive from Him the price of the precious gold our trials bring to us. This is not to discourage us, but so that we can delight in seeing His power made manifest to us personally and to all those around us. Let's receive His counsel to be all in with Him today.

Revelation 3:18-18
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich; and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
NKJV

Life Lesson: We need to receive Jesus' counsel and go for the cross daily. We have a golden opportunity every day.

Lord, thank you for being with me in the fires of persecution and difficulty. Please forgive me when I have bowed down to my sin, my flesh, and my culture instead of standing for you. Please give me the power to stand for You and with You, because I can trust that You will be with me even in the fire. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Living to tell what He died to say,
