A STANDSTILL

Read: Ezra 4

Key Verse: “Thus the work on the house of God in Jerusalem came to a standstill until the second year of the reign of Darius king of Persia.” - Ezra 4:24

There was opposition to rebuilding the temple from many of the Israelites enemies. Zerubbabel and some of the other leaders made it clear that they would not cooperate with the bullies. They faced constant discouragement and intimidation from the opposition as they worked for the Lord. Eventually their opponents lodged an official letter of complaint to the Persian king, Artaxerxes.

The king ordered the work stop while the matter was investigated.

It is possible to be doing God’s work in God’s way and still face a delay. Is there anyone who is slowing down God’s work in your life? When there is a standstill, check to see if you need to make any adjustments. God will use waiting to get your attention and begin a redirection. Other standstills are just part of the spiritual battle and require prayer, fasting, and perseverance. Do not give up just because there is a standstill. Listen to God, take the next step of preparation in the process, and keep walking by faith.
