GOOD DETOURS

Read: Galatians 4

Key Verse: “As you know, it was because of an illness that I first preached the gospel to you.” - Galatians 4:13

God has a record of bringing incredibly good experiences out of difficult circumstances. The apostle Paul did not expect to be preaching the gospel to the Galatians as much as he did. He writes that it was because of his illness that he spent time in Galatia and brought God’s Word to so many people. If he was healthy he might have passed through town quickly during his first missionary journey (Acts 13:14-14-23).

I have seen so many people who are sick, in the hospital, even on their death bed, telling their loved ones and hospital employees about Jesus Christ. Have you ever had a change of plans that included open doors to share your faith? When Paul was thrown into jail, he simply told the jailors about salvation. Has God ever used a challenging health, job, or financial situation to redirect your steps? When God closes a door, do not panic or embrace despair. Paul kept his faith up and made the most of the detour. Instead of wallowing in pity, keep your eyes open for a life giving message you can share to encourage someone else God brings in your path.
