Read: Proverbs 26

Key Verse: “Like one who seizes a dog by the ears is a passer-by who meddles in a quarrel not his own.” - Proverbs 26:17

Have you ever seen what happens when a dog is grabbed by the ear? That dog goes into full attack mode! If you meddle in other people’s business, you might end up becoming the victim. Many people are naïve as they step into an existing conflict, but a bad situation can turn ugly very quickly. Many people always want to be the hero and think they can fix anything. Even police officers are often hurt the worst in domestic violence cases. They are experts courageously doing their job, but we can all learn a lesson.

Most of the quarrels you will experience are probably relational, not physical. (If someone’s life is in danger, call 911 immediately.) Regarding ongoing conflicts, there is a time when you can be a peacemaker and point people towards forgiveness and reconciliation that is good. People, however, often start listening to details, adding their own opinions and mean words, picking sides, and unintentionally increasing the conflict. Life has enough challenges without absorbing other people’s issues. Pray for the situation but be wise about your involvement and distance.
