Read: Psalm 79

Key Verse: “O God, the nations have invaded Your inheritance; they have defiled Your holy temple, they have reduced Jerusalem to rubble.” - Psalm 79:1

Asaph has watched nations invade his land, defile God’s holy temple, destroy Jerusalem, and kill his friends. Two appeals are made to God: 1) Be merciful to His people and forgive their sins 2) Pour out His wrath on the oppressors.

This psalm is an intense prayer and carries a desperate tone.

God’s wrath is real and powerful. Many people today want to deny it, but it is part of His justice. Asaph’s concern is that God’s name is being attacked, and his desire is for God’s glory to prevail. Asaph will not take matters into his own hands, but His motivation is for injustice to stop and protection to be enforced.

There is only One who can correct such an awful situation. Asaph is asking God to take action now, without delay. Can you relate?
