Mark 13:33-36 Beware, keep alert; for you do not know when the time will come. It is like a man going on a journey, when he leaves home and puts his slaves in charge, each with his work, and commands the doorkeeper to be on the watch. Therefore, keep awake—for you do not know when the master of the house will come, in the evening, or at midnight, or at cockcrow, or at dawn, or else he may find you asleep when he comes suddenly.
You know back in the first century, the early Christians were expecting Jesus to return like … next Thursday at the latest. They had very clear expectations of His imminent return.
Well … it's just a couple of thousand years since then. That's rather a long time - certainly just a smidge longer than what they were expecting. And so it's easy to get the idea that:
(a) He's never coming back and it was all a hoax, or
(b) Him coming back is a long, long, long way off.
But - and there's always a ‘but' isn't there - but Jesus made it clear (this is the same Jesus who was raised from the dead, let me just add at this point) He made it clear that He was coming back at a time that none of us would know. And when He did - He expected us to be awake and alert and busy doing His business.
So - if He came back tonight - would you be ready?
