A Healthy Church Member is a Biblical Theologian...Continued from page 1

Thabiti Anyabwile

Pastor, Author

But perhaps the most compelling benefit for doing biblical theology is that it deepens our understanding of and facility with the gospel. Jesus and the apostles did not need the New Testament to proclaim the gospel. They relied on the Old Testament and understood that the Old Testament Scriptures pointed to Jesus (Luke 24:27, 44–45). The biblical theologian follows in the steps of Jesus and the apostles by mastering the unity of Scripture, seeing Christ and the gospel throughout.

In the next article in this series, I will explain how you as a church member can become a biblical theologian.

Pastor Anyabwile, You are right on the mark in this article.I hope you will accept and "Amen" from myself a saved sinner since Jan 2007. I went to church as a child but mostly went through the motions and ended up walking a poor wretched life without Christ at my side. It was terrible.
In Jan 07 I picked up a set of volumes of Dr J Vernon McGee's Thru the Bible Course. I started at the beginning and read every word straight through and completed it in Jan 09. MY son died a 43 years old in an accident this March and had I not have know Jesus Christ as my own. I would not have been able to go through such a terrible personal event. I study and read everything I can get my hands on and I pray everyday for more understanding and wisdom. I love everything about the Bible and for the first time in my life I do have the peace that Jesus Christ provides.
Your brother in Christ

I remember being told years ago that ignorance of the Bible was ignorance of God, and reading your points sounded very familiar to me, especially the point of correcting our wrong thinking about God. My faith has been so enriched the more I have studied scripture, church history, and the early church fathers. It has helped me see how often I and others try to shrink God to fit our limited thinking, instead of allow the Spirit to enlarge our ability to experience God in all His glory.
