Jeremiah

38:20-23 (selected) Jeremiah replied, "You won't be handed over to them if you choose to obey the Lord. Your life will be spared, and all will go well for you. But if you refuse to surrender... All your wives and children will be led out to the Babylonians, and you will not escape. I can fully understand the king's fear. Neither option looked good. Either way, he would be captured, but only if he did it God's way would he not be harmed. However, when you are staring down captivity, it is easy to try to solve your own problems out of fear. The king apparently did not have the personal history with God to know if He was trustworthy or not. So what should we do? Read it again...OBEY! No matter how scary it looks, God's way is always the best option.

1 Timothy

I can't get over some of the differences between NLT and NAS today:

6:6 (NLT) Yet true religion with contentment is great wealth.

6:6 (NAS) But godliness actually is a means of great gain when accompanied by contentment.

6:15-16 (NLT) ...the blessed and only almighty God, the King of kings and Lord of lords. He alone can never die, and he lives in light so brilliant that no human can approach him. No one has ever seen him, nor ever will. Huh? We'll never see God? Great NLTism!

"Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God." Matthew 5:8

6:15-16 (NAS) ...He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone possesses immortality and dwells in unapproachable light, whom no man has seen or can see. To Him be honor and eternal [age-enduring] dominion! Amen. Better translation! Don't forget, Jesus will not be ruling eternally but only until all enemies have been put under His feet (1 Cor. 15). There is no need to rule when your subjects have become compliant brothers.

Psalm

89:48 (NLT) No one can live forever; all will die (though we know what they are trying to say, it's a poor choice of words since everyone will have everlasting life).

89:48 (NAS) What man can live and not see death? Better!

I don't know about you, but I'm enjoying this intensity break! First one in awhile.
