Today is a beautiful day. I'm sitting outside a morning session at a Christian writers' conference in Philadelphia, thanking God for the new friendships I've formed and for the inspiration I've received by simply being in the presence of fellow writers and editors who view their work as ministry.
As we focus on honing our craft, however, news of troubles in the "outside world" are never far away. Many of us have been reconfiguring travel plans as we prepare for the conference to end tomorrow. Shall we fly as planned or rent cars and take to the road?
We've seen photos of the hours-long lines at airports across the country. We've heard that authorities are still searching for several terrorists who could be just about anywhere, plotting to do just about anything.
But the beauty of being at a conference with fellow believers is that our faith in the One we beieve in has the power to overshadow, compensate for and negate the worry or fear that attempts to seize our hearts.
Just yesterday, bestselling author Lisa Samson reminded participants in her fiction workshop that fear and faith cannot co-exist. Just minutes ago, two women sitting across from me in the lobby joined hands, bowed their heads and prayed for one another.
Where God is present, all is well. As long as He dwells in your heart, that means He's holding your hand. Wherever you and He tread together, your safety is assured.
Phillipians 4:6:
Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.
