I've been on a figurative treadmill the past month or so as I've prepared for the release of my second Christian fiction novel, "Nothing But the Right Thing." Since just before the book's April 1 release, radio and Internet interviews, book signings and other tasks related to book promotion have kept me busy from morning 'til night.
While I'm out promoting the book, however, I'm constantly reminded of why I'm doing it. Though the book is a work of fiction, it's a significant part of my writing ministry, designed to bless others and draw them closer to the One who created us all. I have the pleasure during my interviews and book events of telling listeners what the title "Nothing But the Right Thing" really means.
It means that whatever our hopes and dreams, whatever we view as that one right thing (or person) that will satisfy us and make our lives perfect, nothing and no one can fully do that but the Heavenly Father. When we make God our one true "right thing," everything else will fall into place.
I said that last night during an evening interview for an Internet radio station, and though I've reiterated that same message many times before, it gave me an extra dose of comfort last night. I was reminded myself as I spoke that the book is just another vessel being used by Go to draw readers (and even me) to Him, the One true right thing.
While I'm promoting the book or out speaking to audiences on other matters of faith, regardless of what I say or don't say, or how busy I get with writing and promotion, the only thing that matters is that one true right thing - my relationship with God.
As long as I - and all of us - keep that at the forefront of our endeavors, He surely will order our steps and allow the rest of our desires to fall into place, as He deems is best for us. That means that we can rest easy - the God who knows all and sees all is guiding us.
When it seems we are busier than ever, we can and should steal away for quiet moments of reflection and reconnection with Him. God can recharge and supercharge our batteries with a peace, joy and unconditional love that no one else and nothing else can come close to matching.
In that spirit, enjoy this day. Have a faithful, restful Thursday, dwelling on the One true Right Thing.
For I am persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor wars, nor things present nor things to come, nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:38-39 (NKJV)
