The Bride and the Daughters of Jerusalem

11 The Song of Songs, that 'is' Solomon's.

2 Let him kiss me with kisses of his mouth, For better 'are' thy loves than wine. 3 For fragrance 'are' thy perfumes good. Perfume emptied out—thy name, Therefore have virgins loved thee! 4 Draw me: after thee we run, The king hath brought me into his inner chambers, We do joy and rejoice in thee, We mention thy loves more than wine, Uprightly they have loved thee! 5 Dark 'am' I, and comely, daughters of Jerusalem, As tents of Kedar, as curtains of Solomon. 6 Fear me not, because I 'am' very dark, Because the sun hath scorched me, The sons of my mother were angry with me, They made me keeper of the vineyards, My vineyard—my own—I have not kept.

7 Declare to me, thou whom my soul hath loved, Where thou delightest, Where thou liest down at noon, For why am I as one veiled, By the ranks of thy companions? 8 If thou knowest not, O fair among women, Get thee forth by the traces of the flock, And feed thy kids by the shepherds' dwellings!

The Bride and the Bridegroom

9 To my joyous one in chariots of Pharaoh, I have compared thee, my friend, 10 Comely have been thy cheeks with garlands, Thy neck with chains. 11 Garlands of gold we do make for thee, With studs of silver!

12 While the king 'is' in his circle, My spikenard hath given its fragrance. 13 A bundle of myrrh 'is' my beloved to me, Between my breasts it lodgeth. 14 A cluster of cypress 'is' my beloved to me, In the vineyards of En-Gedi! 15 Lo, thou 'art' fair, my friend, Lo, thou 'art' fair, thine eyes 'are' doves! 16 Lo, thou 'art' fair, my love, yea, pleasant, Yea, our couch 'is' green, 17 The beams of our houses 'are' cedars, Our rafters 'are' firs, I 'am' a rose of Sharon, a lily of the valleys!

21 As a lily among the thorns, 2 So 'is' my friend among the daughters!

3 As a citron among trees of the forest, So 'is' my beloved among the sons, In his shade I delighted, and sat down, And his fruit 'is' sweet to my palate. 4 He hath brought me in unto a house of wine, And his banner over me 'is' love, 5 Sustain me with grape-cakes, Support me with citrons, for I 'am' sick with love. 6 His left hand 'is' under my head, And his right doth embrace me. 7 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes or by the hinds of the field, Stir not up nor wake the love till she please!

8 The voice of my beloved! lo, this—he is coming, Leaping on the mountains, skipping on the hills. 9 My beloved 'is' like to a roe, Or to a young one of the harts. Lo, this—he is standing behind our wall, Looking from the windows, Blooming from the lattice. 10 My beloved hath answered and said to me, 'Rise up, my friend, my fair one, and come away, 11 For lo, the winter hath passed by, The rain hath passed away—it hath gone. 12 The flowers have appeared in the earth, The time of the singing hath come, And the voice of the turtle was heard in our land, 13 The fig-tree hath ripened her green figs, And the sweet-smelling vines have given forth fragrance, Rise, come, my friend, my fair one, yea, come away.

14 My dove, in clefts of the rock, In a secret place of the ascent, Cause me to see thine appearance, Cause me to hear thy voice, For thy voice 'is' sweet, and thy appearance comely. 15 Seize ye for us foxes, Little foxes—destroyers of vineyards, Even our sweet-smelling vineyards. 16 My beloved 'is' mine, and I 'am' his, Who is delighting among the lilies, 17 Till the day doth break forth, And the shadows have fled away, Turn, be like, my beloved, To a roe, or to a young one of the harts, On the mountains of separation!

The Bride's Reverie

31 On my couch by night, I sought him whom my soul hath loved; I sought him, and I found him not! 2 —Pray, let me rise, and go round the city, In the streets and in the broad places, I seek him whom my soul hath loved!—I sought him, and I found him not. 3 The watchmen have found me, (Who are going round about the city), 'Him whom my soul have loved saw ye?' 4 But a little I passed on from them, Till I found him whom my soul hath loved! I seized him, and let him not go, Till I brought him in unto the house of my mother—And the chamber of her that conceived me. 5 I have adjured you, daughters of Jerusalem, By the roes or by the hinds of the field, Stir not up nor wake the love till she please!

The Wedding Procession

6 Who 'is' this coming up from the wilderness, Like palm-trees of smoke, Perfumed 'with' myrrh and frankincense, From every powder of the merchant?

7 Lo, his couch, that 'is' Solomon's, Sixty mighty ones 'are' around it, Of the mighty of Israel, 8 All of them holding sword, taught of battle, Each his sword by his thigh, for fear at night. 9 A palanquin king Solomon made for himself, Of the wood of Lebanon, 10 Its pillars he made of silver, Its bottom of gold, its seat of purple, Its midst lined 'with' love, By the daughters of Jerusalem. 11 Go forth, and look, ye daughters of Zion, On king Solomon, with the crown, With which his mother crowned him, In the day of his espousals, And in the day of the joy of his heart!

21 Then, after fourteen years again I went up to Jerusalem with Barnabas, having taken with me also Titus; 2 and I went up by revelation, and did submit to them the good news that I preach among the nations, and privately to those esteemed, lest in vain I might run or did run; 3 but not even Titus, who 'is' with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised— 4 and 'that' because of the false brethren brought in unawares, who did come in privily to spy out our liberty that we have in Christ Jesus, that us they might bring under bondage, 5 to whom not even for an hour we gave place by subjection, that the truth of the good news might remain to you. 6 And from those who were esteemed to be something—whatever they were then, it maketh no difference to me—the face of man God accepteth not, for—to me those esteemed did add nothing, 7 but, on the contrary, having seen that I have been entrusted with the good news of the uncircumcision, as Peter with 'that' of the circumcision, 8 for He who did work with Peter to the apostleship of the circumcision, did work also in me in regard to the nations, 9 and having known the grace that was given to me, James, and Cephas, and John, who were esteemed to be pillars, a right hand of fellowship they did give to me, and to Barnabas, that we to the nations, and they to the circumcision 'may go', 10 only, of the poor that we should be mindful, which also I was diligent—this very thing—to do.

Paul Rebukes Peter at Antioch

11 And when Peter came to Antioch, to the face I stood up against him, because he was blameworthy, 12 for before the coming of certain from James, with the nations he was eating, and when they came, he was withdrawing and separating himself, fearing those of the circumcision, 13 and dissemble with him also did the other Jews, so that also Barnabas was carried away by their dissimulation. 14 But when I saw that they are not walking uprightly to the truth of the good news, I said to Peter before all, 'If thou, being a Jew, in the manner of the nations dost live, and not in the manner of the Jews, how the nations dost thou compel to Judaize? 15 we by nature Jews, and not sinners of the nations, 16 having known also that a man is not declared righteous by works of law, if not through the faith of Jesus Christ, also we in Christ Jesus did believe, that we might be declared righteous by the faith of Christ, and not by works of law, wherefore declared righteous by works of law shall be no flesh.' 17 And if, seeking to be declared righteous in Christ, we ourselves also were found sinners, 'is' then Christ a ministrant of sin? let it not be! 18 for if the things I threw down, these again I build up, a transgressor I set myself forth; 19 for I through law, did die, that to God I may live; 20 with Christ I have been crucified, and live no more do I, and Christ doth live in me; and that which I now live in the flesh—in the faith I live of the Son of God, who did love me and did give himself for me; 21 I do not make void the grace of God, for if righteousness 'be' through law—then Christ died in vain.
