12 And the fire upon the altar shall be burning in it; it shall not be put out: and the priest shall burn wood on it every morning, and lay the burnt offering in order upon it; and he shall burn thereon the fat of the peace offerings.

Other Translations of Leviticus 6:12

New International Version

The Message

12 Meanwhile keep the fire on the Altar burning; it must not go out. Replenish the wood for the fire every morning, arrange the Whole-Burnt-Offering on it, and burn the fat of the Peace-Offering on top of it all.

New King James Version

New Living Translation

12 Meanwhile, the fire on the altar must be kept burning; it must never go out. Each morning the priest will add fresh wood to the fire and arrange the burnt offering on it. He will then burn the fat of the peace offerings on it.

Matthew Henry's Commentary on Leviticus 6:12

Commentary on Leviticus 6:8-13

(Read Leviticus 6:8-13)

The daily sacrifice of a lamb is chiefly referred to. The priest must take care of the fire upon the altar. The first fire upon the altar came from heaven, 24; by keeping that up continually, all their sacrifices might be said to be consumed with the fire from heaven, in token of God's acceptance. Thus should the fire of our holy affections, the exercise of our faith and love, of prayer and praise, be without ceasing.

13 The fire shall ever be burning upon the altar; it shall never go out.

Other Translations of Leviticus 6:13

New International Version

13 The fire must be kept burning on the altar continuously; it must not go out.

English Standard Version

13 Fire shall be kept burning on the altar continually; it shall not go out.

The Message

13 Keep the fire burning on the Altar continuously. It must not go out.

New King James Version

13 A fire shall always be burning on the altar; it shall never go out.

New Living Translation

13 Remember, the fire must be kept burning on the altar at all times. It must never go out.
