32 Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice.

Other Translations of Ezekiel 33:32

English Standard Version

32 And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and playsHebrew like the singing of lustful songs with a beautiful voice and one who plays well on an instrument, for they hear what you say, but they will not do it.

The Message

32 To them you're merely entertainment - a country singer of sad love songs, playing a guitar. They love to hear you talk, but nothing comes of it.

New King James Version

32 Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them.

New Living Translation

32 You are very entertaining to them, like someone who sings love songs with a beautiful voice or plays fine music on an instrument. They hear what you say, but they don't act on it!

Matthew Henry's Commentary on Ezekiel 33:32

Commentary on Ezekiel 33:30-33

(Read Ezekiel 33:30-33)

Unworthy and corrupt motives often lead men to the places where the word of God is faithfully preached. Many come to find somewhat to oppose: far more come of curiosity or mere habit. Men may have their hearts changed. But whether men hear or forbear, they will know by the event that a servant of God has been among them. All who will not know the worth of mercies by the improvement of them, will justly be made to know their worth by the want of them.
