What are the Biblical roles for husbands and wives?

Chuck Betters

MARK INC Ministries

After 38 years of marriage, Sharon and I are still learning how to live out God’s commands on marriage! How do I love her as Christ loves the church? I am willing to physically die for her but dying to myself every day is what Christ requires and my wife desires. Sharon is called on to respect and honor me, to submit to my leadership as her protector and provider. Sharon is a strong, gifted woman and it’s my responsibility to make sure she has the freedom to use her gifts to build God’s kingdom. Although it is much easier now because of the habits of grace God is growing in us, there are times when we must step back and resolve conflicts and differences in the context of those roles. Study Ephesians 5 together and especially note verse 21: “Submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.” A marriage that lives out this command will reflect redemption.

I love this article. It is the pure word of the Maker of the institution of marriage. It reads like God's manual for the complementary roles of the two key players (husband and wife) in the marriage institution. Dr. Charles Betters has done a wonderful job of research on how to build a successful marriage. From this article I get the impression that he would be a blessing to the couples in my young ministry. Many marriages are on the rock mainly because the partners are playing reversed roles. The husband, for some reason, is either the woman in the family or the baby and the woman is the man. Reversed roles in marriage is a recipe for pure hell! I hope to read more from Dr. Charles Betters on Marriage. May God use him even more mightily to restore the marriage institution to its intended glory. Amen!

I was reading your comment and my brother you are on it we must alway's submit to one another out of reverence for Christ. Our lives should reflect Christ in our living always putting our love ones first as Christ has loved us first.my husband and i have been going through warfare and i know we have the victory in Jesus my husband has to walk into his deliverance from substance it has taken a toll on our relationship because we are unequally yoked in our walk I love Jesus and daily seeking His face in my life my husband is saved but operating in a backsliden state and it makes it difficult for me at times so i agree we must Honor God almighty in our living God bless.

to gods blue eyed angel you in your committment to christ have no rights or demands on that man he is still married and is in covenant with his wife until he is divorced and only if it was a true biblical divorce. abandanment or infidelity, phyisical or mental abuse .You are in the wrong for even dating him. HE IS MARRIED REGARDLESS OF WHAT HE SAYS OR DOES TO YOU OR WITHOUT YOU . Run from this situation it is a recipe for disaster to you and your walk with the Lord. re read your own blog here and look to see the vail that is over your eyes in this situation. sorry to be so blunt but we are family here.
